Repairing scratches in a wooden floor
Moving furniture, pets' claws and grit leave marks on a wooden floor. You can make most scratches almost invisible with the right method once you have first found out whether the floor is lacquered or oiled.
You will need
- A parquet repair pen or wax in the right shade
- Wood filler
- Fine sandpaper (e.g. 240)
- Floor lacquer or floor oil depending on the finish
- Cloths and masking tape
- Felt pads
Steps
Identify the finish
Put a drop of water on the floor in an inconspicuous spot. If the water beads for a long time, the surface is probably lacquered, and if it soaks in or darkens the wood, the surface is oiled.
Clean the spot
Repair surface scratches
Fill deep dents
