Tiling a kitchen splashback
A kitchen splashback is a good first tiling job, because the area is small and dry. Careful planning and a straight starting line decide whether the result looks professional.
You will need
- Tiles plus about 10% extra for waste
- Tile adhesive and a notched trowel
- A tile cutter and tile nippers
- A spirit level and spacers
- Grout, a rubber float and a sponge
- Silicone for the corners and the worktop joint
Steps
Measure and plan
Measure the width and height of the splashback and calculate the number of tiles, adding about 10% for waste. Draw the tile layout so that no narrow slivers are left at the edges.
Prepare the surface
Mark a starting line
Spread the adhesive
Fix the tiles
Cut the edges and openings
Grout the tiles
Finish with silicone
