Cleaning a cooker hood
A greasy cooker hood extracts poorly, spreads cooking smells and is also a fire safety risk. Washing the grease filter is part of regular home maintenance and only takes a moment.
You will need
- A dishwasher or a large sink
- Degreaser or washing-up liquid
- A soft brush
- Microfibre cloths
- A new carbon filter if your hood has a recirculation function
Steps
Switch off the power
Turn off the fan and the light and let them cool down. If you are doing maintenance inside the hood, also switch off the power at the fuse.
Remove the grease filter
Wash the filters
Let them dry
Wipe the casing and inner surfaces
Replace the carbon filter
Check the lights and operation
Keep up a maintenance routine
