Renewing a driving licence and exchanging a foreign one
A driving licence is valid for a fixed period and must be renewed in time so that your right to drive does not lapse. If you are moving to Finland, it is also worth finding out right away whether your own licence is valid or needs to be exchanged.
You will need
- Your current driving licence or its details
- A passport photo or a photo studio's electronic photo code
- Online banking credentials for Traficom's e-services
- A medical certificate, if required because of your age or health
- Proof of identity
Steps
Check the validity
The expiry date of the driving licence is marked on the card. The administrative validity of the licence card and the validity of your right to drive can be different things, so check both.
