Car will not start in the cold
A freezing morning exposes a weak battery, and the car may just click when you try to start it. The problem is often easy to get around with a jump start, once you know the correct order and the safety instructions.
You will need
- Jump leads or a jump starter
- Another car with a battery of the same voltage
- A torch
- Protective gloves
- The phone number of roadside assistance or your insurance company
Steps
Identify the symptom
If the starter motor turns slowly or just clicks, the battery is probably weak. If the starter turns normally but the engine does not start, the fault may be in the fuel or ignition.
Switch everything off
Check the battery and terminals
Connect the positive lead
Connect the negative lead
Start the cars
Disconnect the leads correctly
Have the battery checked
Call for help if needed
