Violin: your first pieces

Your first violin pieces are usually played in first position using the open strings and a few fingers.

You will need

• Your instrument
• Sheet music, tabs or an app
• Metronome

Steps

1. Choose a piece

   Choose an easy folk song that fits on the D or A string.

2. Learn the notes

3. Practise the bowing

4. Play slowly

5. Use your tuner's drone

6. Increase the tempo

7. Play with accompaniment
