Establishing a new lawn

Well-done groundwork decides whether your lawn will be even and green years from now, or mossy and bumpy. This guide goes through the whole process, from preparing the soil to the first mowing.

You will need

  1. Choose the timing

The best time to sow a lawn in Finland is from late May to June or in August, when the soil is warm and there is enough rain. A late autumn sowing does not have time to establish before winter.

  2. Remove the old vegetation

  3. Make a proper growing bed

  4. Level and firm

  5. Choose a seed mix

  6. Sow evenly

  7. Keep the soil moist

  8. Mow for the first time
