Choosing and fitting a child car seat
A correctly chosen and fitted car seat is a child's most important protection in the car. In Finland, a child under 135 cm tall must use a child restraint. This guide explains how to choose a seat, fit it and when it is time to move on to the next one.
You will need
- Your child's height and weight
- Your car's owner's manual (Isofix points and airbags)
- The car seat's fitting instructions
- The chance to try the seat in your own car
Steps
Choose by height
On new seats, the i-Size label (R129) tells you what height of child the seat is for. On older ECE R44 seats, the classification is based on weight.
Keep them rear-facing for a long time
Check that it fits your car
Take the airbag into account
Fit it firmly
Tighten the harness correctly
Move on to a booster seat
Do not buy an unknown seat second-hand
