Weaving on a loom

Floor looms are used to weave rugs, towels and fabrics. Many adult education centres and weaving groups have looms that are already warped, which makes it easy to start.

• A loom (at an adult education centre or weaving group)
• Weft (rag strips or yarn)
• Shuttle
• Scissors
• Tape measure

   Find out about weaving facilities at your adult education centre, workers' institute or parish. Pre-warped looms make it easier to start.

2. Get to know the loom

3. Prepare the weft

4. Learn the treadling order

5. Throw the weft

6. Keep the edges straight
