Registering your dog in the dog register

In Finland, every dog must be microchipped and registered in the dog register of the Finnish Food Authority (Ruokavirasto). The register helps the owner of a lost dog to be found quickly. This guide goes through microchipping, registration and reporting changes.

You will need

Steps

  1. Check the microchip status

Look at your dog's vaccination or registration certificate to see whether your dog already has a microchip. If you are not sure, a vet can read the chip with a scanner in a few seconds.

  2. Book microchipping at a vet

  3. Note the deadline for puppies

  4. Log in to the dog register

  5. Fill in your dog's details

  6. Pay the registration fee

  7. Transfer ownership

  8. Keep your contact details up to date
