Tuning a guitar
An out-of-tune guitar makes even correctly played chords sound wrong and drains your motivation. In this guide you learn to tune your guitar quickly and accurately and to keep it in tune for longer.
You will need
- A guitar
- A clip-on tuner or a tuner app on your phone
- A quiet room
- Spare strings if needed
Steps
Learn the string names
Standard tuning, from the thickest string to the thinnest, is E, A, D, G, B, E. In Finland the note B is called H, so do not be confused if Finnish materials or a tuner show H instead of B.
Attach the tuner
Always tune upwards
Turn the tuning pegs gently
Check the whole guitar again
